UP law

 

Definition

Unless there is anything contrary to the subject or context, in this Act-


(1) 'Law Enforcement Agency' means the Police Force, Armed Police Battalion,
 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Ansar Bahini, Battalion Ansar, Bangladesh Rifles,
 Coast Guard and Defense Forces;

(2) 'Code of Conduct' means the Code of Conduct framed under this Act;

(3) 'financial institution' means a financial institution as defined in section 
2 of the Financial Institutions Act, 1993 (Act No. 26 of 1993) and section 
2 of the Money Lending Court Act, 2003 (Act No. 6 of 2003);
4) 'Building' means any shop, house, hut, sitting room, shed, stable or 
any fence, walls, water reservoir, verandah, platform, floor and staircase 
constructed with any material for any purpose;
(5) 'union' means the rural areas and existing unions declared as unions under
 section 11 of this Act;
(6) 'Union Parishad' means a Union Parishad constituted under section 10 
of this Act;
(7) 'upazila' means the area declared as an upazila under the Upazila Parishad 
Act, 1996 (Act No. 24 of 1998) and the existing upazilas;
(8) 'Upazila Parishad' means the Upazila Parishad constituted under the Upazila 
Parishad Act, 1996 (Act No. 24 of 1998);
(9) 'Upazila Nirbahi Officer' means the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of an Upazila;
(10) 'ward' means the ward of the Union Parishad;
(11) "tax" means any tax, sub-tax, rate, toll, fee, duty or any tax levied under this Act;
(12) 'rural area' means an area not declared as a city;
(13) 'Chairman' means the Chairman of the Union Parishad;
(14) 'Janpath' means public road, road and road
(15) 'population' means the population mentioned in the latest census;
(16) 'land' means any land under construction or under construction or submerged
(17) 'district' means a district created under the District Act, 1836 (Act No. 1 of 1836);
(18) "Deputy Commissioner" means any officer specially appointed by the Government under 
this Act who shall perform all or any of the functions of the Deputy Commissioner;
(19) 'Schedule' means any schedule of this Act;
(20) 'fund' means the fund of the Union Parishad constituted under section 53;
(21) 'thana' means a police station constituted in accordance with the provisions 
of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898 (Act No. 5 of 1898);
(22) "officer in charge" means any officer appointed by the Government or an officer
 authorized by him for the purpose of this Act;
(23) 'urban area' means the area declared as a city;(24) "designated authority" means
 the government or any government official authorized by the government to carry out 
any specific purpose of this Act;
(24) "designated authority" means the government or any government official authorized

(25) "prescribed procedure" means the procedure prescribed by the rules.
(26) 'Election Commission' means the Election Commission established under Article 
117 of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh;
